Christmas Tree is my favourite! I love getting myself one. It’s nice to go for a little haunt around the city and find the perfect tree. I also love decorating it and almost each year I buy some new decorations.
Why we decorate a tree for Christmas?
The custom was developed in medieval Livonia (present-day Estonia and Latvia), and in early modern Germany where Protestant Germans brought decorated trees into their homes. It acquired popularity beyond the Lutheran areas of Germany and the Baltic countries during the second half of the 19th century, at first among the upper classes.
The tree was traditionally decorated with “roses made of colored paper, apples, wafers, tinsel, [and] sweetmeats”. In the 18th century, it began to be illuminated by candles, which were ultimately replaced by Christmas lights after the advent of electrification.Wikipedia
Christmas Tree picking
I love going for a Christmas Tree haunt around my city. I always look up where they’re currently selling ones. It’s not an easy case because I always look for the one which is perfect for me. It means it has a good density of branches and it’s quite small as I need it to my room. I wish I could be able to fit a super big Christmas Tree but I know it won’t happen now. We still have bigger one in the living room area though. Remember there’s always someone who has your perfect tree out there just need to look a bit longer.
Decorating the tree
I like to decorate the tree with baubles but also with a lot of unique decorations. I’ve collected a lot of different ones and I’m very happy with them. I have shiny birds, little elves, angels, golden butterflies and flowers. You know when you watch a Christmas movie and there’s the Christmas Tree and they always decorate it not only with baubles? Yeah, I believe mine is looking a bit like those trees in the movie 😉 Oh, and of course lights! I always pick warm and bright ones although this year I’ve been thinking about buying some colorful ones.
This tradition is very beautiful and I like it. Of course always chose the trees from someone who has a Christmas Tree farm or the store which has certificated trees so you know they’re eco friendly. What’s more, I believe the Christmas Tree picking and decorating should be an opportunity for the whole family to spend some time together. Me and my family are always decorating the big tree together and it’s really fun time.
